Dr. Tamara Trobentar, PhD in Psychology, internationally certified integrative psychotherapist, Brainspotting expert, supervisor and Brainspotting teacher
My journey into psychotherapy, working with people and developing broadly socially oriented programs that are focused on a holistic approach to treating the individual as a social being in connection with creativity, began very early with my desire to develop, to help fellow human beings, the desire for creativity and orientation towards the wider good. The path of education took me through a few bends, where I explored the deeper or fundamental psychological causes of the formation of minorities – the so-called ‘different’, in the doctoral study of psychology at the Faculty of Arts in Ljubljana, in the dissertation Socio-psychological constructions of the “Different”, which the majority in the wider social environment constantly creates, maintains and consequently releases (projects) their own frustrations onto them. At the same time, I got involved and completed a specialization in integrative psychotherapy at the Institute for Integrative Psychotherapy IPSA within the International Integrative Psychotherapy Association, where I felt my mission, namely lifelong personal development and the desire to help others (or their growth) psychologically/psychotherapeutic help, who in one way or another found themselves on the path of various hardships, self-knowledge or personal and professional Development.
The study of integrative psychotherapy is based on a holistic approach to the human being, where the individual is seen as a whole of cognitive, emotional, behavioral and physiological, as well as social and spiritual dimensions. Integrative approach is based on the integration of various psychotherapeutic schools, modalities (from psychodynamic, Gestalt therapy, transactional analysis, cognitive-behavioral therapy, physical and sensory psychotherapy, …), neurobiological knowledge, all the way to the latest effective methods of working with trauma – Brainspotting (completed IV (highest) phase and Master Class with Dr. David Grand, obtained the title of BSP expert, supervisor and Brainspotting teacher-trainer), specialized training in Deep Trauma Psychotherapy, its processing and integration (the ‘Aleceia’ Method) and important relaxation techniques such as mindfulness, etc., which allows me to see each individual as an individual and a corresponding being, with an inherent self-worth, within the framework of a dynamic approach.
An important area of my research and work is also psychological and psychotherapeutic knowledge in relation to creativity, where I am deeply involved in the development and implementation of the Program for the Integrated Development of Children in Primary School, the Integrative Creativity model and the Program for the Integrated Treatment of Stress Management.
I regularly attend various conferences, lectures, seminars and workshops in the field of psycho-traumatology, brainspotting, neuropsychology and cognitive neurology, neuroscience in connection with psychotherapy, working with the body in psychotherapy, mindfulness, therapy of children and adolescents, creative approaches in psychotherapy, research in psychotherapy, trauma and addiction, etc.
As a member of the Expert Council of the Slovenian Umbrella Association for Psychotherapy, I am quite actively involved in the development of psychotherapy in Slovenia as part of my wider social engagement. I am trying to do this in the field of work on the normative regulation of the profession of psychotherapy in the Working Group for the CAP Act, as the President of the Expert Council of the CAP and as the long-term President of the Program Committee of the CAP Study Days, within which we organize a congress every year on a topic that is current for our psychotherapeutic work and the work of other experts in the field of mental health.
One of the very important topics in my work and life in general for me is taking care of myself. To this end, my personal and professional development is always focused on continuous education and training in various psychological, humanistic and broader socio-social fields, as well as regular supervision and continuous work on myself. At the same time, I am also actively involved in sports, yoga and meditation.
I am a member of the Slovenian Association for Integrative Psychotherapy and Transactional Analysis (SINTA), the Slovenian Umbrella Association for Psychotherapy (SKZP), the World Association for Integrative Psychotherapy (IIPA), the European Association for Integrative Psychotherapy (EAIP) and the European Association for Psychotherapy (EAP), under which I am also committed to their code of ethics.
The path of self-discovery is a path where we touch our own vulnerability and uncertainty – and this is precisely the space where new ideas (creativity), possibilities and opportunities open up, and thus new deeper paths of life. As the Buddhist proverb says: “There is no lotus without the mud”!
