At our institute, we also perform psychotherapy with the help of the Brainspotting method. Brainspotting is a newer psychotherapeutic method that has proven to be very effective in accessing, processing and processing the neurophysiological origins of trauma and alleviating psychological and physical symptoms. This method allows us to come into deeper contact with disconnected, unprocessed traumatic experiences and difficult experiences that result in a wide range of different distresses, negative beliefs, behaviors, etc. in a safe therapeutic relationship.
The term “brainspotting” refers to the position of the eyes, or point-oriented gaze, which evokes a strong physical or psychological reaction in the individual, as a result of contact with the subcortical part of the brain. As the author of the method, Dr. David Grand, says, “where you look affects how you feel.” He noticed that when clients described a traumatic event, a certain position of the eyes further stimulated the experience of an unpleasant situation or memory. By “brainspot”, we mean the area in the brain where the trauma has become stuck, rather than being processed and integrated into the entire memory scheme.
Many experts in the field of processing and treatment of psychological trauma believe that the emotional charge or memory of traumatic experiences is stored not only in memory schemes that can be put into words, but the traumatic experience is also imprinted in the implicit, deep or non-verbal memory of the individual, so it can also experience the trauma on the physical level. With the brainspotting method, we try to access these memories, which are stored in the deeper layers of the brain (subcortex) and, due to their non-integration into the entire memory scheme, make it impossible to comprehensively process the trauma.
The Brainspotting method was originally intended for individuals with post-traumatic stress disorder, but its effectiveness is also confirmed in individuals who are struggling with the following problems:
In addition, this method is also very effective for work in the field of:
